One of the best ways to do so, short of creating a $6 Adwords campaign, is to start a project. Yes, a project. Make a new website. Design a shirt. Write copy for potential companies. Master Excel. Just do something.
By starting a project, you can show companies what you can do. If you're a marketer, create a marketing plan or campaign for the company. For programmers, create a Github (if you haven't already) and either contribute to other open-source projects or create your own. For web designers, create a portfolio and show companies websites you've created. By showing companies your actual talents and abilities, rather than words on your resume, you're already ahead of the curve, as they know that you can bring results.
So while people are deciding which part of their resumes to color, or which font to use to "stand out", get started on showing people what you can do.
And if you're interested in learning new skills, here are some sites that can help:
University of Reddit
Khan Academy
Codecademy (programming specific)
